I've been an educator for 20 years, and was a journalist, photographer and arts editor before that. This is my 7th year with Lincoln County Schools teaching Spanish I, 2 and 3.
I've taught at East Lincoln, Lincolnton, and West Lincoln High Schools, also at Burns and Patton high schools, and at Crestdale Middle School in Charlotte. Before becoming a Spanish teacher, I taught English at Catawba Valley Community College and at Bunker Hill, Newton-Conover and at Vance High School in Charlotte. I have Master's degrees in Education Technology and in Writing, and I love creating art, photography and music using the latest technology. I own a recording studio with my husband, and we've published 15 cds for various audiences. Our cds sell all over the world, especially in Australia, Japan and Germany. We play guitar, sing and tell stories at festivals and museums, and if you want to hear some of our music, you can find samples online. Growing up in Texas, I always heard Spanish around me, and learned in school beginning in the 4th grade. I've shopped the mercados at Matamoros for Taxco silver. I've climbed the Pyramid of the Moon at the ruins of Teotihuacan north of Mexico City. I wrote a novel for young adults about the Maya of ancient times. I have scuba dived off the coast of Honduras, worked as a whitewater raft guide, have flown in a helicopter over a sleeping volcano. None of these adventures were as fun, or as hard -- or as worthwhile -- as being a good teacher. I'm still in the middle of that adventure, and if you come along with me, I promise you will never be bored! |
